A message from the Chairman/Junior Manager - 2025 Season

Dear Parents and Junior players,

The 2025 season is almost upon us, with the ground set and ready to go, the Hybrid wickets looking fantastic, if only your Chairman could wind back the years. I’d love to have a bat on them!

Juniors Teams 2025

  • All-stars and Dynamo’s
  • 3 Teams in action for the Mill Hill Finches
  • 11 Teams all competing in the Middlesex leagues and Cups (U9/10/11A/11B/12/13/14/15A/15B/17/19).

So we have plenty of cricket set up ready for a glorious summer. Go well and good luck to all age group managers. The Juniors have had a very up tempo winter. Leigh has done a splendid job putting them through their paces. S&C and lots of fielding drills, so no drop catches or mis field's please, your Chairman will be watching. Good luck all and I can’t wait to see the Juniors in action.

Mens
We see one change of captaincy from last year, Jon Mather takes over from Mark Melzer. Just a special mention for Mark's efforts over the years at the club. Captaining the fours is definitely not the easiest job and personally I don't think our members are always aware of the effort that has to be put in, the number of calls, the late drop outs messages and ferrying players to and from the ground. Many times the fours went out with less than eleven and always gave a good account of themselves. We wish you every success in pastures new.

A couple of welcomes

  • Matt Brewster, son of Scott who played for us in the 90’s, joins us this season from Manly in Sydney where he plays A grade cricket.
  • Charlie Hoban who plays in Canterbury NZ for old boys collegians is also a new addition for the season.

Good luck lads.

CONSISTENCY is key in our cricket. We need regular availability to pick stronger teams and Captain’s can then plan with the cricket committee

All players need to commit to this wonderful club and wear the badge with honour. Play smart, don't give your wicket away. Bowl with guile and tenacity. Field like demons! If everyone gives 100% the rest will take care of itself. Easy to say when you’re watching from the pavilion with a pint of IPA Greene King and glancing at the Atlantic score box, Sorry, got to give the sponsors a mention.

Enough of the Chairman on his soapbox. Chaps, we have a great club, let’s support each other and have a great and enjoyable season. Please do your best to help the club in any way you can.

For the 2025 season, we are using a new system (Club Control) to take payments for subscription. Members will be able to download a new club app which is still waiting to be commissioned and once it is available to download via Google/Apple play store, we will send out a notification. Alternatively, payments can also be done via the bar till. More details to follow on this by end of the week.

A couple of big thank yous. The EC have yet again worked tirelessly on all the off the field projects. We are working on the new pavilion and charitable status, both are now in the hands of Barnet council where unfortunately the cogs seem to work at a very slow pace. The committee will continue to pursue our objectives and I’m sure we will prevail.

To our wonderful sponsors (North Finchely Tutors, KA Cricket, Winkworth, Copping Joyce, Savills Auctions, Allsops, Greene King & Atlantic Electrics) who have continued to support us again this season, the club is most grateful for your committed support, without which Finchley would not be in the great shape it is, and our facilities are becoming second  to none.

One further thank you to all the team who have worked on the ground over the last couple of months, you have put in a shift!

Finally, can I request everyone to please read the training and practice arrangements for the season and complete the forms to submit their t-shirt sizes (sent on Parents Whatsapp Group) . Additionally, we have put some guides on how to update Pitchero information and Play Cricket sign-up process which you may find useful.
